Welcome,

The kitchen is the heart of a firehouse – a gathering place for crews to decompress and refuel in between fire calls – especially in New Orleans where two-alarm blazes are up by 300 percent since Hurricane Katrina. In fact, New Orleans Fire Department Captain Mike Gowland, a locally renowned chef and firehouse cook, recently served his signature gumbo recipe to celebrate the move back into firehouses from temporary trailer homes two years after the storm.

The move was made possible by the Leary Firefighters Foundation, a charity founded by Denis Leary to provide fire departments with funding and resources for up-to-date equipment and training, in partnership with Frigidaire appliances, which provided 11 full kitchen suites.

Please contact Kate Lindley at 312.929.0506 or klindley@currentlm.com to set up an interview with Captain Mike Gowland to discuss his new Firehouse Gumbo Recipe, how to cook for large groups or what it's like to cook with their new Frigidaire appliances.

Thanks!
